Puppy Adventures
Take your puppy on a trainer-guided adventure!
Have you heard of the golden socialization window? This is a period between about 3-16 weeks when puppies are most open to new experiences — and it’s one of the most important parts of a dog's development. The impressions your puppy forms of the world during this short window can impact her for the rest of her life!
During this time, we don’t want to just expose your puppy to the world; we want to make sure she has experiences that feel safe, positive, and manageable. This can be a tall ask!
That's where trainer-guided Puppy Adventures come in. We'll head out together — you, your puppy, and me — to a dog-friendly location in my service area, whether that's a pet-friendly store, a dog-friendly coffee shop, patio, or a local park.
I'll guide you through reading your puppy's body language in real time, help you make decisions about when to linger and when to move on, and coach you on how to set your puppy up for success in new environments.
What to Expect
Before we head out, we'll do a virtual initial consultation so I can learn all about your puppy – their history, their personality, any hesitations you've already noticed, any concerns or issues you’re having. We will also talk through what a successful outing looks like for your puppy specifically. Following the initial consultation, you’ll receive a personalized post-consult plan and any relevant resources.
During the outing itself, I'll be there to help you notice things you might otherwise miss: little moments of body language, like an ear flick or a body shake, that tell us a whole world of information about how your puppy is feeling.
We’ll also practice creating positive associations with potentially scary things that your puppy will encounter in the real world as an adult dog. You'll leave with a much clearer picture of how your puppy experiences the world — and how to continue socialization independently.
While that golden socialization window closes around 12-16 weeks, exposure work doesn't stop being valuable after that. Older puppies can also benefit enormously from guided outings. So even if your puppy is past 16 weeks, we can still focus on building confidence, practicing calm in new environments, and giving you the tools you need to keep going on your own in the future.
